Dear
Manfred,
As
a PETA supporter, you know that in our work for animal rights, progress is not
tracked solely by the number of animals we save from cruelty. Because so many
are abused and neglected every day around the world, it's also measured by our
work to change minds and stop barbaric practices.
You'll
find some of the many ways your commitment helped animals last year in PETA's
2017 Annual Review. I think you'll be pleased with all that we
accomplished together.
You
made it possible for PETA to secure the world's first-ever cruelty-to-animals
convictions of sheep shearers who stomped on, punched, and badly injured sheep.
You helped us rescue frightened animals after devastating hurricanes ravaged
Texas, Florida, and Puerto Rico. You also gave us the support that we needed to
pressure the U.S. Coast Guard to become the first branch of the U.S. military to
end the shooting, stabbing, and killing of animals in trauma training
drills.
Your
support helped us close an awful blood bank and free more than 150 greyhounds
from the filthy facility so that they could be adopted into loving homes. And
you made it possible for us to move Elsie the bear and her offspring from a
seedy roadside zoo to a reputable sanctuary, where they can run through tall
grass, play in water, and engage in other normal bear behavior.
Because
of our determination and fearless, hard-hitting work, we do more than any other
group to raise awareness of the plight of animals. Last year with your help, our
online videos were viewed more than 1 billion times—making PETA the most
engaged-with organization on social media!
Thank
you so much for your support of our work. I'm deeply grateful for everything
that you do for PETA and the animals we strive to protect.
Kind
regards, Ingrid E. Newkirk President
