Die Hitzewelle in Europa mag vorerst vorbei sein, in der Arktis wütet sie weiter. Die Folge sind die schlimmsten Wald- und Tundrabrände, die diese Region jemals erlebt hat. Zwar sind Brände auch in der Arktis im Sommer normal, sie gehören zum natürlichen Zyklus des Ökosystems dazu. Aber dass sie auf so großen Flächen auftreten, so früh im Jahr und so weit nördlich, macht Wissenschaftler fassungslos.
