But for the last few days, more and more reports have been emerging – confirmed by eyewitnesses on the ground – that resistance against the Taliban has suddenly sprung up elsewhere as well. Units of the Afghan army, which has officially given up, have reportedly made their way to Panjshir from Kandahar in the south and from the Uzbek areas of the country in the north. On the southern edge of the Panjshir Valley, anti-Taliban forces apparently met little resistance when they took over the important road up to the Salang Tunnel, the only major north-south arterial.

Eines ist klar. Das kann nicht so weiter gehen. Wir brauchen einen Politikwechsel, egal welche Parteien an die Macht kommen. Wir brauchen jemanden, der oder die entschlossen ist und zupackt. Einen Macher oder eine Macherin. Eine klare Vision und eine Idee, wie wir dort hinkommen. Leider ist der Wahlkampf in weiten Teilen geprägt von Merkelscher Lethargie. 16 Jahre streift ein System nicht so einfach ab. Aber wer gedacht hat, im Schlafwagen ins Kanzleramt einfahren zu können, sieht sich dieser Tage eines Besseren belehrt.
Die Wahl ist spannend wie nie. Union und SPD liegen in Umfragen mehr oder weniger gleichauf. Vieles ist möglich. Wer auch immer an Ende das Rennen macht, er oder sie muss zupacken. Oder anders gesagt: Wieder mal muss ein Ruck durch dieses Land gehen.
