Manfred - we’re on the brink of something big, and we need your help. This month, governments will decide whether to create a huge Antarctic Ocean Sanctuary five times the size of Germany. Will you join the petition before we hand it in next week? This is our best chance to make it happen, but the window is closing. Countries are preparing their final negotiating positions now, and we need to show that there’s overwhelming public support for an Antarctic Ocean Sanctuary. Next week I’ll be taking our petition to the UK government. But right now we’re just short of our target. If you’ve been meaning to get involved, now’s the time. Sitting at the bottom of the world, the Antarctic Ocean is home to a great diversity of life. It’s home to penguins, whales, seals and many more wonderful sea creatures.
But a warming climate and an expanding commercial fishing industry threaten this area and its iconic creatures.
The good news is, we have the power to protect it. The UK government can play a vital role in creating an Antarctic Ocean Sanctuary. It’s part of an Antarctic Ocean Commission which will make a decision on protecting the Antarctic at the end of this month!
That’s why I’ve just signed the petition, to urge the UK government to stand up for the Antarctic.
