Victory for humanity!

Victory for humanity! :fist:
The Supreme Court of Italy has concluded that “Carola Rackete acted correctly following the provisions on rescue at sea because the obligation to provide rescue does not end in the act of rescuing the shipwrecked persons from the danger of losing their lives at sea, but it entails the consequent and additional obligation to disembark them in a safe place".
Hi Manfred,
Remember Carola Rackete? The captain of the Sea Watch 3 ship, who was arrested and taken to Court last June, for having rescued people who risked dying in the Mediterranean Sea? Finally, there is good news!
Eight months after launching our petition in her support (do you remember?), the Italian Supreme Court just published the reasoning behind  the decision - made a month ago - to release Rackete from the shameful charges of aiding and abetting illegal immigration.
Manfred, this is a great victory for her but also for many of us who never stopped fighting for her freedom and for the freedom of people like her that save human lives in the Mediterranean.
It reaffirms the principle underlying our values as Europeans and our democracy: seeking asylum is not a crime and humanitarian aid cannot be turned into a political game for electoral purposes.
The ruling puts an end to a long and tortuous trial journey for Rackete. That's why we want to thank you for your valuable support. But we still need to remain vigilant!
Rackete's story is similar to that of many other people like her. It shows how our right to help people is being criminalized in many EU countries and that activists from civil society organizations and ordinary citizens like us are constantly arrested, fined and intimidated all over Europe for merely offering humanitarian assistance to people fleeing persecution and wars.
For this reason, we would like to still count on you Manfred! Please, keep supporting our work to make sure that we win other battles we are fighting together.

Thank you so much for everything you do!
