Your free membership allows you to play both live and correspondence chess games using just your browser--no software to download!
To take advantage of all the great features of Caissa, we encourage you to become a subscribed member. For a small yearly fee you will gain access to all areas of the site and help support future upgrades and additions to the site. You can subscribe by logging in to Caissa and clicking the "Join Now!" banner at the top of the page. Here are some helpful hints for using Caissa's Web:

• The site is optimized for use with the Windows operating system and the Internet Explorer 9 or Firefox 4 web browsers. The most up-to-date Chrome and Opera browsers will also work well. Older browsers should work, however you may encounter some formatting and presentation issues.
• The most up-to-date versions of Apple Mac hardware and software, specifically the Safari browser, should also work with the site.
• You must have the most up-to-date version of Java installed on your computer. It is usually installed automatically, but you may need to update it. If you are having trouble using the site, you can go to www.java.com and click the "Free Java Download" button to easily install the latest version.
• If you have any further trouble accessing the site, please go to this link: http://www.caissa.com/ext/javacheck. This will provide some feedback as to your computer's capability to use the site. The results of the test should be self-explanatory, however if you have any questions please reply to this email and copy-and-paste the results of the test in your reply.
• A great way to get familiar with Caissa is to view our Video Tutorials. You can access those here: http://www.caissa.com/tutorials.
• When you first start playing chess on Caissa, you will be given a provisional Elo-style rating that approximates your skill level. After completing a certain number of games, your rating will become official. You must complete 5 correspondence games to establish your Correspondence rating, and 10 live games to establish your Live rating. Among other benefits, establishing your official ratings will grant you access to additional areas of the site, such as Correspondence Chess Tournaments.
