Yifan Hou – Hou Yifan
Her
given name is Yifan and the family name is Hou. In China family names
precede the given name. So you often find the name written as Hou Yifan.
Since this page is mainly designed for people outside China we use it
in Western fashion: YIFAN HOU.
True love is . . .
Even
though there were no more reports about Yifan’s chess activities in
2014, the logfiles of yifanhou.net still show visitors from far more
than 100 different countries. There are obviously quite a number of
people who share our esteem and affection for the most outstanding and
most beautiful chess player of all times and all galaxies.
No,
we have no intention to restart the actual reports for the English and
the German blog. Especially during the bigger events it simply takes
too much time to create results that are suitable for our wonderwall.
Unfortunately the work for Yifan is not our only commitment. So, it
seems to be a good compromise to update the pages about Yifan’s ChessCareer
with the results of the major tournaments in 2014 and to further reduce
the work for the two blogs. We will see. In view of the keen interest
from all parts of the world we will surely not remove the contents from
the server that is at the moment especially dedicated for Our young Lady of China.
The
pictures show Yifan in Biel where she plays the Grandmaster Tournament
“in memoriam Hans Suri”. After his bitter loss in Wijk aan Zee in 2013
where he even got a little angry at the end of a long and epic battle,
Anish Giri had today to go once again through the painful learning
process that it’s a huge mistake to underestimate Yifan. Against the
world champion who reminds us with her appearance and her chess again
and again of a messenger from a heavenly realm he did not have one bit
of a chance. With today’s live rating of 2653.7 Yifan has entered as the
second woman ever into the illustrious circle of the Top 100 – at least
for one day.
Expecting
too much would put unnecessary pressure on her. In our opinion, Yifan
still plays below her possibilities. Nobody knows if she will finally
find the conditions that help her to fully unfold the potential – and,
first of all, how long she will have fun in setting her major focus on
chess ratings. However, congrats and all good wishes to our wonderwall.
We told it many times before: She IS and always will be the Greatest. So, looked at closely, there is absolutely nothing to prove, nothing to achieve.
